Brinjal Pitlai is tasty side dish for Plain rice.. famous in south Tamilnadu.


Brinjal - 250 gm

Thuvar Dal - 1/4 Cup (cook along with Turmeric Powder and mash)

Tamarind - amla size

Coconut - 3 tsp

Sambar Powder - 3 tsp

Turmeric Powder -1/4 tsp

Gingerly oil - 4 tsp

Salt,mustrd seeds ,asafoetida, curry leaves,


In 2 spoon of oil saute brinjal for 2 mts, add tamarind pulp all powders close and cook for 4 mts.

Grind coconut with few curry leaves, into a fine paste. Once brinjal is cooked, add cooked thuvar day, coconut paste, salt. Add some water as per consistency, cook it for 3 mts,

In 2 spoons of oil fry mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves add it to the gravy

Now the pitlai is ready.
